Backpack program put smiles on a lot of faces
It just very recently occurred to me that I haven’t, on behalf of the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, thanked all the generous Champaign Urbana citizens who made our annual Christmas Backpack Giveaway such a success.
So, belatedly but sincerely, I want to thank everyone who filled a burberry bags sale backpack.
Once again, our Backpack Giveaway was a resounding success. The weather on Dec. 19 was actually balmy. We had a line that stretched for blocks, but everyone waited patiently, perhaps helped by the cookies that Santa passed out.
And we gave away over 750 backpacks in just over two hours. The 70 to 100 leftover packs were given away over the next few weeks.
Those backpacks have come in particularly handy this winter, as they were filled with warm socks, gloves, hats, scarves, sweatshirts and long underwear items that have helped our guests endure this wretched weather.
I wish that you all could have been there t burberry bags sale o see toddlers almost bent over backward with big bags on their backs and men and women with huge grins on their faces as they received a bag.
The true spirit of Christmas seemed to permeate New Covenant Fellowship.
Thanks to Champaign Rotary for donating burberry bags sale burberry bags sale 80 very generously filled packs. Thanks to Holy Cross School children, University of Illinois football staff, Sunday school classes, Girl Scout troops and other groups and individuals who filled a backpack and brought Christmas to our soup kitchen guests.
